Ingrid Nuss – the artist behind this J Bay print

Meet Ingrid Nuss, a fine artist and surfer who literally lives in Wilderness…

…a town in South Africa, along the legendary Garden Route. Her art blends surreal imagination, natural inspiration and surfing fervour with an African vibe.

A bit of background

'Wonder' – Artist Bio: Ingrid Nuss from Ingrid Nuss on Vimeo.

Ingrid’s love of nature and creativity were cultivated on family camping trips between the Cape and Namibia. Always sketching the surroundings she loved, Ingrid studied at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town, and graduated with distinction!

Post-grad Ingrid travelled the world working for the world’s largest privately-owned art auctioneers, but was eventually drawn home. Where she settled in Wilderness, the Heart of the Garden Route, sandwiched between evergreen forests and untouched coastline.

Much of Ingrid’s art lures us into unknown worlds with familiar features. Our perspectives are challenged with wild creatures lazing in the lounge and surfers riding into limitless galaxies.

As well as original artworks, Ingrid offers canvas and paper prints plus trusty t-shirts with international shipping available.

Living next to one of the best surfing coastlines in the world, Ingrid isn’t short of a world class wave or two. But it’s not all creative art and fine waves, as a humble description of the surf shot above reveals:

What you don’t see is … I got washed over many rocks, scraped my new board badly, my leash got stuck, and I had to try to get myself loose with my foot and board in the air.

Luckily I managed to come out with just a few scrapes on my feet, but it scared me properly, and I cried a lot.

Thankfully this intrepid ripper lives to surf and paint another day, in fact she also shared a recent work in progress featuring her nearly new surfboard:

Ok so the last painting’s not strictly speaking surf themed, but I love it and wanted to share.
