Monster waves ridden in… Newquay!

As most surfers sought shelter over the weekend, some hardcore locals surfed 20-30ft waves in Newquay.

Only rare giant swells will deliver Hawaiian style waves in England, and The Cribbar in Newquay is one of the few reefs that will hold these monsters.

A phenomenal 20ft swell and a 19 second period was predicted for the weekend. So it was no surprise that a crowd quickly gathered to watch the intrepid tow-in teams take on The Cribbar.

Amongst the locals legends getting wet were Ben Skinner with tow-in partner Richard Sills. Richie got pitted and Ben wasn’t afraid to bust a few moves, which considering the size of the waves takes big balls in my opinion.
