prAna – a sustainable surfer friendly clothing company

prAna is an eco-friendly, ethical and sustainable clothing company with classy designs to suit modern surfers’ needs.

Influenced by yoga, climbing, surfing and a Californian vibe, prAna is perfect for the active adult who needs quality clothes for work and play. Their enthusiastic ethical vibe and subtle timeless laidback designs are carefully tailored for Surfer Mums and Dads.

This is not a label for youthful rebels looking to stand out in a crowd like a surfing peacock. There’s no giant logos, loud colours or aesthetically alarming designs. prAna is for grown ups, who care about the environment and how their clothes are made. It’s for surfers who want to dress like surfers but with style and integrity.

This video captures the prAna spirit in 5 minutes of visual pleasure:

prAna Roots

prAna was started in a garage in Carlsbad, California back in 1992 by Beaver and Pam Theodosakis. They sewed the first garments themselves, labeled them with tags made from homemade recycled paper, and shipped their orders in fruit boxes from local grocery stores.

Today, prAna is still based in Carlsbad but they’ve grown a lot. They continue to follow their core belief that companies should give much more than they take from the world. Their commitment to sustainability, community, and doing right still inspires and pushes them today.

prAna have created a stylish range of clothing for work, socialising and surfing. The surf range includes boardies, bikinis and shorties – all featuring quick drying recycled polyester.

For the ladies there’s neoprene shorts, jackets and shorties for surfing in warm waters, and an impressive choice of bikinis in innovative designs and styles.

For men, there’s a great range of shirts, jeans and trousers made from organic cotton. Perfect for a hard days work, pints with friends or just being a Surfer Dad:

When you want to go for a run, get bendy in a Yoga class or surf in warm waters there’s also a cool choice of boardies.

prAna kindly sent me their Wheeler jeans and an Ecto Space Dye shirt to try out, and as a bloke who likes multi-function clothes I highly recommend them. They’re perfect for the pub, in the office and I won’t look out of place at the beach either.
